Much is written about the value of articles to the Internet Marketer but how do you get started with Articles Marketing. Can you just sit down and write anything? Well, not surprisingly, that approach is not likely to bring you much success. Although you could try.

There are two main aspects to a good article; Keywords and Content.

Keywords

To be effective the articles that you publish must attract not only the reader but the Search engines too. So keywords are important, in fact they are probably the most important thing you need to appreciate when you get started with Articles Marketing.

The two main points to remember about keywords are these;

o They must be relevant

o They must be competitive

Clearly there is little point in using keywords that have little connection with you subject but equally for them to be useful for you they must be keywords that enable you to achieve good Search Engine rankings. Hence very popular keywords e.g. Dog Training will in themselves be of little value because there is so much competition. But being more specific e.g. training German shepherd dogs has a lot less to compete with.

The Free Google Keyword tool is invaluable for this research.

Then there is also the question of keyword placement. The key to a successful article is that it should be about the keyword. So the keyword should appear in the title, the first sentence, and roughly once a paragraph thereafter.

Content

The other essential element of Articles Marketing is the content. This must have the following characteristics;

o Relevant and current

Your content needs to be both current and relevant to the title and keywords that you are promoting.

o High quality.

This means that the article should be well written with good spelling and grammar. Credibility is soon lost if this is not the case.

o Useful

Almost above all your content must be useful to the reader. It should be something that will give the reader cause to remember you and want to follow the links to your website.

Ideally you should research your topic so that you can offer a new insight into your subject. However you can take an easier route by taking a couple of articles from a directory such as EzineArticles.com, taking content from both, and re-writing in your own words. This is more effective than just re-writing one article.

Submission

Once you have written your article then the article needs to be submitted. There are a vast number of directories and niche blogs to whom you can submit your work. The top rated directory is EzineArticles.com, where you need to ensure that your article has unique content. Other highly rated directories that you might consider are ArticlesBase.com, Buzzle.com and Affsphere.com.
